Mentor Commitment

*Do I have the attitudes, skills & experience ?

Attitudes

  • strong interest in and commitment to developing others
  • willing to explore issues, rather than jump to solutions
  • willing to give appropriate feedback
  • respectful of another’s viewpoint and decisions
  • patience, allowing mentee the time they need to decide
  • committed to growing themselves and their skills
  • willing to use your network of contacts to help the mentee
  • commitment to confidentiality

Skills

  • strength in developing relationships and rapport with others
  • a good listener
  • able to clarify situations, options and issues your mentee is facing
  • able to show empathy and care
  • able to reflect during and outside mentoring sessions about session content as per my previous question on this section above
  • asking helpful, insightful questions
  • able to help someone find their solution rather than tell them what to do
  • able to understand yourself and others
  • flexibility in approach
  • fluent English speaker

Experience

  • substantial experience in leadership (typically 5-10 years), either in mission, ministry or secular work
  • a committed, mature Christian

Are you ready to make the commitment and start the registration process ? Here is a summary

  • Carefully, prayerfully and fully completing the registration information, including providing a referee and participating in a phone/skype call with the project coordinator and initial 3 hours or so e-training
  • Once accepted, participating in a mentoring session every 4-6 weeks, typically via skype or phone, occasionally face to face when feasible, including making notes of key points
  • Preparing for and reflecting on mentoring sessions
  • Being in regular email contact with your mentee
  • Prayerful support for your mentee
  • Reflecting on and developing your mentoring practice
  • Occasional feedback to us on how things are going
  • Minimum commitment of one year, ideally two years, although successful relationship can go on longer than this

Having read all of the above, you decide the next step.

You start the registration process by creating a Mentor Account on this website, to enable you to return later, and by making your Mentor Commitment. Your username is your email address and your password should be at least 6 letters long.

Go through the 5 steps of registration once only. The longer forms can be submitted partially complete if needed. To make changes later, please login to your account, where you can update all information, notify us of changes, check your status or get support.
